Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri ...



Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri is the Founding Chairman of United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP).

Born on 24th May, 1958 in a Kashmiri village called Papanar Trarkhel, Sudhnuti Azad Kashmir. Mr. Kashmiri completed his early education from a local Government High School in Trarkhel in 1973 and afterwards he migrated to Karachi, Pakistan for higher education as there was no proper education in Kashmir. In Karachi, he completed F.Sc (1977) from Government Science College, Karachi followed by B.Sc ( 1980) and then Bachelor in Laws (1982) later he completed Masters in Islamic Studies from Karachi University in 1985.

He has practised as an advocate in the different courts of Azad Kashmir (From 1985 to 1997)

He is member of human rights organizations and was once elected as General Secretary of Bar Association at Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir. He was Secretary General of Sudhan Educational Conference, the oldest and biggest welfare organization in Azad Kashmir.

Mr Kashmiri started his political career at university where he raised his voice for the education and democratic rights of the students and organized many demos and strikes in order to force administration’s eye on the matters to resolve for that he was sent in Jail by Pakistani authorities and also in Kashmir. From 1980 to 1997 Mr Kashmiri organized several sessions, conventions and rallies in different cities of Azad Kashmir for the basic human rights of the people of Pakistani Occupied Kashmir and right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir and Gilgit & Baltistan and he called for the exit of Pakistan Army from Pakistani Occupied Kashmir. He also organized many demonstrations against theo-fascism and Pakistan’s proxy war with India.

In 1993, he represented Kashmiri people in the European Parliament Round Table Conference held in Brussels, Belgium

Due to his strong and effective campaigns and increasing fame in Kashmiri public he was abducted by ISI in 1994 and 1998. UKPNP and other like-minded parties and nationalist groups demonstrated against his illegal confinement and detention throughout ‘Azad’ Kashmir and Pakistan. In start ISI and Government of POK denied any involvement in his abduction, but because of constant pressure from the public and international community; he was released without charge after 9 months of illegal arrest.

From 1999 to till-date, he delivered speeches during the sessions of UNHRC and Sub Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, on the subject of human rights violations and the Kashmiri’s right to self-determination for the establishment of an independent Kashmir and represented UKPNP in different international forums. Amnesty International declared him a prisoner of conscience. He is living in exile in Switzerland since April 25, 1999 after his life was in danger at the hands of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan Army.

Since 2004, he is Secretary General, International Kashmir Alliance (IKA), which is comprised of secular political parties struggling for the independence of Kashmir, Gilgit & Baltistan.
For last 2 decades he is organizing many conferences in different capitals of European countries on Human Rights violations in the Pakistani Occupied Kashmir.
