Denarius Anthony Motes (born July 23, 1980) better known by his artist name Motesart, is an American record producer and is the musical half of the production duo Sham & Motesart, together with mixing engineer Sham. Born in Queens, New York and raised in North Babylon, New York.
Growing up the youngest of three boys in North Babylon, New York, Motesart’s deep roots began in the church as an organist and piano player since the early age of 6. While growing up in his father’s church he began to explore his musical abilities, by becoming the church Musical Director at age 15. His style infused modern and traditional songs to capture the ears of all ages. He continued to study throughout his young life all through college picking up several other instruments along the way (drums, trumpet, guitar and bass). He competed in NYSMA and ranked as one of the top students in the state. During his teen years, he played numerous sports and excelled in football , helping to led his HS teams in numerous state and county victories (Football, Basketball and Track). Although he received an academic scholarship to Hofstra University and chose to major in Jazz, he was recruited to play on their Football team. This is where he began to fulfill his dream of producing his music and exploring his talents.
During a chance meeting in 2008, while playing keys for the “Save a life” song by Reggae Artist Shaggy. Motesart met up & coming mixing engineer Sham. Sham who had already mixed on several mainstream projects really enjoyed working with Motesart. The duo realized that their styles created a unique sound and formed the production team Sham & Motesart. Since that day, they have been making amazing music together. Motesart’s vast musical ability brought a wealth of gospel, Rock, hip hop, pop, fused together to make his epic sound with Sham.
Career Motesart has lent his musical experiences as a Musical Director to artists such as Nina Sky, Noel Jones &TD Jakes during their Syracuse crusade conference and Jaiden. After producing for a lot of local NY artists, in 2009 the duo’s work caught the attention of Sony/ATV. With a musical style that had yet to be tampered with and a creative sound, Sham & Motesart were welcomed into the SONY/ATV Family and signed as Producers. In 2010, They signed a young latina singer/songwriter Ginette Claudette to their production company. Her music with them led to her signing a record with Universal/Motown. To date their work includes production and songwriting credits with song cuts with: K'Naan, Nelly Furtado, Diane Warren, James Fauntleroy, Lauren Evans, Adonis, Autumn Rowe, Shakira, Pink, Melanie Fiona, Akon, JoJo, Sia, Skylar Grey, Mario, Christina Milian, Wilmer Villarroma, Keke Palmer, Karmin, Latice Crawford, Jasmine V, Jessica Ashley, Chris Rene, Cover Drive, Guy Sebastian, Lil Eddie, Kat Graham, IM5, Jade, Shaggy, Priscila Renee, Stacy Barthe, Redd Stylez, Tino Coury and The Veronicas. Motesart’s versatility and breadth of musicianship also allows him to add a live sound to most of his music, by playing the guitar, bass and piano on almost every project, Sham & Motesart have moved their sound to the West Coast where they are now based in Hollywood California, and is currently working on the upcoming Fefe Dobson album to name a few….
Personal life On November 19, 2010, he married Keisha Richardson. They have two daughters, both from previous relationships, Kayliah Motes and Ky’Arah Richardson. Motesart has utilized the musical talents of his family by having them appear on several songs. He is also the nephew of 70’s sitcom star Heywood NelsonJr. from “What’s Happening” .
