Beth Raymer (born in 1976 in Steubenville, Ohio) is an American writer. Her memoir Lay the Favorite, published in 2010, is a vivid and humorous account of the four years she worked in the sports betting industry. Raymer has an MFA from Columbia University. As a Fulbright fellow, she studied offshore gambling operations in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama.
In 2008, Focus Features acquired the rights to produce an adaptation of the memoir. It's been reported that filming will begin in Spring 2011, with Stephen Frears as director, and starring Rebecca Hall as Beth Raymer, and Bruce Willis as her mentor Dink Heimowitz.
