BattleCry Convention
Battlecry Convention is a gaming convention held annually in Auckland, New Zealand. It is one of the largest gaming conventions in New Zealand, and one of the longest running, having run every February since 1983. It is average by international standards, attracting a little over 600 people. The 2013 convention ran from February 15th and 17th.
Battlecry was originally created by the Auckland University Roleplaying Club called AMERICA and run on campus. In 2005 it moved to Freeman’s Bay Community Hall, Auckland as it had grown in size. In 2006 it chose a wolf as it’s ongoing branding and each year it chooses a theme and the logo reflects the theme with a wolf. In 2009 it moved again to the ASB Stadium in Kohimarama, Auckland finally finding a large stable venue.
The convention is a combination event focusing in non-electronic gaming activities. These include board games, card games, war games, roleplaying games, larping and workshops. It also hosts game demonstrations and the annual Battlecry Pacifist Warfare Battle. Since 2010 it has also hosted Ink Forge which is a new area focusing on local artists and their work.
