I want to replace links to old photos with links to better photos Kent Wang (talk) 18:31, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

I'm not really sure AWB is the best tool for that; images are usually only used on one or a few pages, and AWB is more for mass-changes. Primefac (talk) 19:31, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to keep using AutoWikiBrowser to better add WikiProjects to talk pages in other languages, such as those in the Vietnamese versions of Establishments in Italy by year, as well as fixing (not necessarily removing like before) unknown parameters in templates. Your use of AWB appears to have been removed rather than for inactivity - can you explain why or how you will use AWB within the rules and guidelines going forward? Primefac (talk) 19:31, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

I would love to use this for category maintenance and WikiProject tagging across a wide spread of articles quickly. (Oinkers42) (talk) 22:21, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

I believe WP:CATALOT and WP:RATER are better tools for these tasks. Primefac (talk) 19:31, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

I would like to use AWB for fixing various puntuations and citations issues found on WP:NPP and articles within my scope as sometimes it's hard to notice it. Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 12:15, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

I need to add 'Flag of X District' and 'Flag of Y Region' categories to around 3,000 Slovakian flags, doing just about 5% manually took a full day. EnzoTC (talk) 04:09, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

I write to request permission to use AutoWikiBrowser to facilitate identification of duplicate references; I understand that the tool only identifies exact duplicates, and that I must check every edit before saving it. spida-tarbell 𐡸 (talkcontribs) 21:17, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

There are about 200 templates at Category:South Korea pop music group navigational boxes, Category:Girl group navigational boxes, and Category:Boy band navigational boxes that are members of content categories and shouldn't be per the guideline at WP:CAT#T. petscan:29601810 shows several hundred biographies with inconsistent categories. Depending on the subject, the solution is either replacing Category:Year of birth missing (living people) with Category:Year of birth missing, or adding Category:Living people. It's very repetitive (even with HotCat), but I don't think a bot could reliably decide which solution to apply. I'm requesting AWB access because it seems like the right kind of semi-automated tool for this job. jlwoodwa (talk) 01:39, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

[edit]

Hi! I'm applying again as a reviewer, my last time apply on this new page reviwer was declined because my account wasn't 90 days and doesn't meet 500 mainspace edits and i have a contest article deletion. Now it was meet my criteria of 90 days (which is 91 days now i think), 500 mainspace edits and the article was I mentioned it was my article Namumula and the decision is to keep. I created 7 articles (one of my article was approved using AfC), 2 disambiguation and some redirects. I want to participate because i want to share my knowledge and to experience this, and to help lessen the backlogs and delete some unnecessary articles.  Not done. Thank you for volunteering, but in reviewing your editing history I wasn't able to find sufficient experience with the deletion process to feel comfortable granting you the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:44, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi! Hey man im josh, when can I reapply again? Royiswariii | D-GENERATION X | u can talk me :) 05:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
3 months might be a good waiting period. If you apply too soon after a rejection, it may not demonstrate to the WP:PERM admins that you've had enough time to learn and calibrate to previous feedback. Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:29, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Please also reconsider how you tag articles that need work - this is really excessive. If you drop this many tags on something you find in the NPP queue you're going to drive people crazy. -- asilvering (talk) 06:08, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Hey, Asilvering!
I see you reverted some speedy deletion, The two speedy deletion - this and this. The two are already existed in the main article (Maki (singer) and My Mother, My Story), that's why i flagged as speedy deletion. Would you mind to revert it because it's abandoned and it's existing in the wikipedia article. Royiswariii | D-GENERATION X | u can talk me :) 07:07, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
@Royiswariii: Technically whenever, but moving too quick is unnecessary. I understand you want to help and you're eager to do so, but there's no reason to rush it. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:38, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
@Royiswariii, both of those are incorrect CSD tags. Please read the guidelines at WP:CSD very carefully before tagging any more articles. -- asilvering (talk) 17:39, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to request NPR rights. I have prior experience with AfC and NPP, so I'm familiar with the process of reviewing new pages. I'm confident in my understanding of notability guidelines and can easily spot paid/COI editing, as well as unreliable and branded sources. I am also familiar with WP:DP, WP:NOBITING, and CSD

I understand the importance of careful, fair reviews and will do my best to uphold the quality of content on Wikipedia. Thank you! TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 06:37, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

@Rosguill: My account was compromised and i have never been engaged in paid editing. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 15:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
You are expected to be upfront about prior permissions changes and to address these concerns in your initial request. This is now the third time (2, 1) that you have requested permissions since then without addressing this concern in your initial request. That you did not do so does not inspire confidence. You also have not clarified what steps you have taken to prevent your account from being compromised again, which is a necessity before you are conferred any advanced permissions. signed, Rosguill talk 15:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the chance to explain. I realize I should have addressed this in my initial request, and I'm sorry for not doing so. When my account was compromised, it resulted in my permissions being revoked. I want to be clear that I've never been involved in paid editing.
Since then, I've taken steps to secure my account, including enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on my registered email, setting a strong password for my account, occasionally changing my password, and regularly checking my account activity to prevent any future issues. I understand how serious this is and am fully committed to keeping my account secure going forward.
I'm really keen to contribute positively to Wikipedia again and will approach NPP and other responsibilities with full accountability. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 15:46, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Can you please also give a timeline of what happened? How many weeks was your account compromised for? What date was it compromised and what date was the compromise stopped? How bad was the damage when it was compromised? What kind of edits did the attackers make? Any idea how it was compromised in the first place? I understand this is a lot of detail to ask, but explaining exactly what happened should be helpful here. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:43, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Due to my health concerns, as noted here, I was inactive on the site. I gradually recovered, as mentioned here. However, in June 2022, I experienced health issues again, and this time, I didn’t inform the administrators because I had completely stopped using digital devices. As a result of this inactivity, I wasn't able to monitor my account or review my activity on the site. During this time, when my account was compromised, it was used solely for promotional editing by the attacker. Around 15 days before my account was blocked, I noticed I couldn't reset my password because the attacker had hijacked my email and removed it from my Wikipedia account. I recovered my email soon after realizing it was hacked. Upon reviewing my account activity, I found it in a dire state, used solely for promotional editing, which not only damaged Wikipedia but also hurt the trust I had built over several years of hardwork. I also noticed that the account had been inactive after the attacker created 4 articles between May 2023 and July 2023. I was exploring possible ways to regain access. Since I had previously contacted Materialscientist, I emailed them again (as noted here) in August 2023 to confirm my identity and that my email was the original registered email. However, it seemed they were not available. I then contacted the steward team, who directed me to email ca(at)wikimedia.org. After a series of emails, they video-called me, asked some questions, and eventually restored my account on 16 September 2024. Compromise stopped since i regained access in September 2024 and i took necessary steps to secure my Wikipedia account as well as email address. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 04:58, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for those details. Sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope you're doing a lot better now.
1) So your account was compromised from June 2022 to September 2023 (1 year 3 months)? When we take a look at those edits we should assume those are the attacker?
2) Any idea how your account got compromised? They somehow broke into your email and from there used that to password reset your Wikipedia account and got access to it that way? I guess that means that a) you were specifically targeted by UPEs since random hackers would not know or care about your Wikipedia NPP perm and b) they somehow had your email address? Do you remember any phishing attacks against your email or anything like that? –Novem Linguae (talk) 05:22, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
My account was compromised from May 2023 until it was blocked in August 2023, preventing further edits to the mainspace (actual compromise date is not known since i was inactive and under medical observation). The compromise ended when I regained access in September 2024. Any edits made between May and July 2023 were not mine but were done by the attacker. I'm unsure how they accessed my email, but I suspect it occurred after I clicked on a free mobile phone giveaway link shared in a local job offer WhatsApp group (which I have since exited). I downloaded a zip file containing a PDF, unaware that links from untrusted or unknown sources could compromise personal data. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 06:14, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to get this right to delete unnecessary redirects (i.e. move pages over existing single revision redirects regardless of target). Additionally, I would also like to try to harmonize some pages of Spanish municipalities with the name of the country and the province (when necessary) instead of other subnational units (such as comarca). Moreover if a double denomination exists in some cases, I shall use the slash with spaces in between to enhance visual effect of different linguistic nomenclatures. However if an English form is more relevant I shall use it instead of double and local denominations. Other than that I could help elsewhere to move pages if necessary. Thank you, Nuvolet (talk)

A reasonable number of moves, but I not seeing any WP:RM/TR requests and am concerned by this RM which – based on the previous RM – seemed doomed to fail in the first place. This discussion also looks to be going against you. Primefac (talk) 18:05, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
I only can say I'll be responsible if you grant me this right. I can participate in more TM, I just need to get usedd.to them. Yes it failed however I understood the norms and moved similar articles to Countryname. I opposed to Anatolian plateau because there are other geographical units that use capitalization in similar contexts. — Jɑuмe (dis-me) 01:14, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

[edit]

I've been doing RC Patrolling (as a part of Anti-Vandalism) on Wikipedia for a while now, and I think that having the Pending Changes reviewer permission could be a good idea - there have been numerous instances involving a pending changes edit that I look at while looking through Special:RecentChanges that i wanted to accept/deny/etc, and i feel that this permission would be beneficial for my efficeincy. DM5Pedia 04:34, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I believe that I'd be a good Pending Changes Reviewer, as I have a good amount of time on my hands, and can do monotonous tasks, like denying obvious vandalism, and the like. I meet, what I believe are all the requirements for this right, and humbly ask to receive this privilege. Thanks in advance! Legendbird (talk) 09:06, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Legendbird. Thanks for your enthusiasm. The good news is: you can already revert obvious vandalism! If you'd like to help out, you can go to Special:RecentChanges and revert obvious vandalism. There are a few tools you can install, like Wikipedia:Twinkle to make this easier, and automatically warn vandals too. I'd be happy to grant you PCR once you've gained some experience with these tools. For now, I can't see a track record yet to see if you've understood vandalism enough, so I'll be marking this as  Not done. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:39, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
I have read all the internal WP: articles on vandalism, and have Lupin's Anti-Vandal tool installed, however, I am asking for PRC, as every time I check "filter recent changes", there are none. Wikipedia being too good at its job, I guess. I'll keep an eye out more on the "filter recent changes" page, I guess. Thanks! Legendbird (talk) 07:38, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Rollback

[edit]

(Trying this again because one of my scripts broke the template)

I have been reverting vandalism and patrolling recent changes for over a month now. The last time my request was declined, I simply hadn't been patrolling for a month at that point, and @Fastily had no other objections. I have consistently warned all vandals I reverted and reported many to AIV. I believe I'm ready to have rollback now. Also note that I am a pending changes reviewer. TheWikiToby (talk) 17:32, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has had 1 request for rollback declined in the past 90 days ([5]). MusikBot talk 17:40, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? It's important to leave a notification for every revert you make (especially when reverting good faith edits). Are you aware of tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which make this extremely easy? -Fastily 23:53, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
@Fastily Diff by diff:
1. Completely forgot that there is a warning template for NOTFORUM. The last time I used that warning was all the way on Sept 13 [6] which is more than a month ago. Completely skipped my mind.
2. I have no explanation on this one; I probably just forgot.
3. No explanation either.
The earlier failures seem to be one off mistakes I made that happen to be close together, but the revert that happened just today is definitely very unfortunate for me not to warn. The sea of reverts I've made mostly have warnings other than the above, so I don't exactly know how I managed to forget to warn at all. I'll make sure this doesn't happen again. TheWikiToby (talk) 01:10, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Please ensure that you are always leaving warnings. I can't stress enough the importance of not biting the newcomers; if you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. Moving forward, could you please make a promise to leave warnings/notifications for every revert? -Fastily 21:04, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Yes. I promise a warning/explanation for every revert I perform from now on. TheWikiToby (talk) 21:58, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I've been RC patrolling for a month combined and have the needed mainspace edits.

I always warn users when reverting their edits, either with the default warning template or a custom one if the situation is unique.

I think I understand the policies here, as all of my reports to WP:AIV, WP:RPP and WP:UAA have resulted in action.

I would like Rollback because using more advanced tools like Huggle would make my RC patrolling easier.

Thanks for your time! MolecularPilot 08:51, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
