My Diary

Just living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. ~Hans Christian Andersen.
Hope, deceitful as it is, serves at least to lead us to the end of our lives by an agreeable route. ~ François Duc de La Rochefoucauld.

Hello! Welcome to my userpage. I am Sainsf, an Indian Wikipedian. I joined the community in 2010, but became actually active from 2012. It's been almost 10 years here; a long journey from back when I was in school to now, when I am a chemistry undergraduate. I have mostly been a contributor to natural history articles, and an active good article reviewer. I became less active here after 2016 due to big changes in real life, but I have started contributing significantly again from late 2019. I am thankful to many editors who helped me become who I am today here, especially Mysdaao and Sasata (who have since become inactive).

I can try doing reviews for you if I have the time and interest, just leave me a message on my talk page. Newbies, I would feel honored to help you! Note: This userpage is based on a design by Phaedriel (we miss you <3).

Though these userboxes I racked up from literally everywhere in my early days on Wiki (yeah I was a crazy teen) speak way more than you need to know about me (:P), here are some details anyway:

  • I joined Wikipedia way back in my early teens.. mostly on an impulse to create an article. Then I made all sorts of mistakes, even wondered if I did the right thing by joining. But nearly ten years later, I am so glad I did. This platform has helped me learn a lot how to communicate, how to write scientific articles and all in all has been a rewarding experience!
  • I am no expert on natural history, though I have a good understanding of biology up to an intermediate level. My interest in natural history is mostly amateurish, in real life I am a chemistry nerd. May be I will start working on chem articles later in the future, but I wish to improve a lot of neglected mammal articles for now.
  • I am female but sort of a tomboy. It amuses me every time I'm referred to as "he" :D

My stuff – This is where I treasure all my significant contributions in one place :)

San Lorenzo Colossal Head 1
San Lorenzo Colossal Head 1

The Olmec colossal heads are at least 17 monumental stone representations of human heads sculpted from large basalt boulders. The heads date from at least before 900 BC and are a distinctive feature of the Olmec civilization of ancient Mesoamerica. All portray mature men with fleshy cheeks, flat noses and slightly crossed eyes; their physical characteristics correspond to a type that is still common among the inhabitants of Tabasco and Veracruz. The boulders were brought from the Sierra de los Tuxtlas, a mountain range in Veracruz. It is thought that the finished monuments represent portraits of powerful individual Olmec rulers. Each is given a distinctive headdress. The heads were variously arranged in lines or groups at major Olmec centres. Dating the monuments remains difficult due to the movement of many from their original context prior to archaeological investigation. Most have been dated to the Early Preclassic period (1500–1000 BC) with some to the Middle Preclassic period (1000–400 BC). (Full article...)
