Jewish poets in Al-Andalus wrote a considerable amount of homoerotic poetry[1], particularly during the golden age of Jewish culture in Spain (900-1100). The authors of these poems were the great rabbis and scholars of the day, community leaders such as Ibn Gabirol, Shemuel ibn Nagrella, Moses ibn Ezra and Yehudah Halevi[2]. This poetry can be described as a "poetry of desire"; poems do not necessarily reflect lived experiences, but may also reflect unrequited feelings of longing.
