My dream for Wikipedia is that it become recognized as an appropriate and legitimate source of knowledge and all of my edits are performed with this in mind.
- I am not one of the editors who believe that more is better. I don't judge Wikipedia by the amount of articles that it contains, so you won't see me creating dozens of articles at a time. Most of my effort is spent on maintaining the ones that we have.
- I have a pet peeve for those who take advantage of other people and on Wikipedia this translates into spammers and editors with a conflict of interest. These editors abuse our open editing process for personal gain. You know who you are and I will show no mercy when calling you out and dealing with you.
- I also routinely patrol articles for deletion debates. I have tough standards for what should be allowed on here, so I'm much more likely to concur with the idea of deleting a problematic article then to argue against it. The articles we need to concentrate on trimming the most are indiscriminate lists and articles compiled through original research. I'm more likely to support articles about obscure historical subjects, as long as some of the information within the article is verified.
- This all being said, drama is the bane of Wikipedia and I try to stay as collegial as possible at all times. Our civility policy is very important in creating a unified community.
Please feel free to give feedback on my editing on my user talk page and don't be afraid to engage me in a dialogue over my edits. Wikipedia is discussion-based, after all! That being said, transparency is important so anything that will eventually be public should be discussed in the public sphere. If you really must contact me offwiki regarding private matters, I have the e-mail function enabled here on Wikipedia and a screenname on AIM that I'll give out privately. I also sometimes lurk on #wikipedia, #wikipedia-en, and #wikipedia-en-spam as "ThemFromSpace" if you're into the whole IRC thing.
As for the guy behind the monitor... I'm just a regular (somewhat nerdy :D) college student with a wide variety of interests. I have an interest in classical music and prog rock, film, philosophy, literature, history, gaming, the Internet, and cyberethics, and much more. I am also an avowed grammophile with a healthy collection of 80-110 year old classical recordings, which would greatly benefit our mission were they not still under copyright in the US due to our draconian copyright laws.
One last thing. I'm terrible at formatting on Wikipedia, so in the spirit of "anyone can edit", feel free and make this page look nicer, just don't delete my autobiography. If I don't like what you did, I can easily change it back.

The Socratic Barnstar

The Socratic Barnstar is awarded to those editors who are extremely skilled and eloquent in their arguments.
This barnstar is awarded to Themfromspace for his incredible idea at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people, which has the potential to be a compromise for all parties. Thank you so much for your contributions to this effort. Ikip 22:38, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

The Anti-Spam Barnstar
|
Thank you for all the work you do to fight spam and for taking the initiative of creating Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard. You continue to remove spam and take part of discussions in a civil manner regardless of the sometimes tiresome and not always pleasant messages from editors with conflict of interest and/or people using Wikipedia as a platform for advertisement. Thanks! jonkerz♠ 11:49, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
