Advanced Forward Link Trilateration is
Advanced Foreword Link Trialteration is a based mobile location technology that works on handset. To measure the location of phone the phone measures the signals level from nearby three fixed points. Fixed points in case of cellular network are BTS (Base Transceiver Station). Device reports time/distance readings to network operator. With these readings network operator calculates the location of device. AFLT requires new hardware or software in phones along with implementation of system with synchronization and precise timing at network operator.
Device location is determined by a geometrical technique called Trialteration. Location is captured in coordinates of latitude and longitude. Using more than three base station increase further accuracy.
Unlike GPS and A-GPS this method does not require help from GPS satellites to determine location.
