Adriaen Coorte (1665 – 1707), also known as Adrian Coorte or Adriaen Corte, was a Dutch painter in the Barock period, specialized on still lifes. Little is known about him. His works were almost forgotten, until the 20th century.[1]
It is assumed that he trained at Melchior de Hondecoeter in Amsterdam.[2] Then he worked as a painter between 1685 and 1707 around Middelburg.[3] His early Vanitas paintings depicted birds, and later also berry fruits, sparrowgrasses, and shells.[3] He usually restricted to a few things which were denoted through near-natural depictions.[4] Two third of his works were first produced on paper and later transferred on wood or canvas, a unique technique rarely used at that time.[5]
