I am active on wikipedia.de (German), but would like to upload some picture and create articles in English. In order to do that, I need to be confirmed.

Is there a way to use a Wikimedia file on Wikipedia without the need to upload the file?
- If you upload a file to Commons, you can use it on the English Wikipedia. :-) Or you can go to WP:UPLOAD if you want to upload the picture to the English Wikipedia. Killiondude (talk) 16:55, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you for the quick reply. I tried to embed http://commons.wikimedia.orgview_image.php?q=User_talk:Trickymaster&sq=Envato&lang=en&file=File:Santa_Fe_Depot.JPG, bottom right of the Union_Station_(San_Diego)#Santa_Fe_Depot under the article description "Inner architecture of Santa Fe". However when I embed the file, it shows a different image of a house. Do you know the right code? --Trickymaster (talk) 17:29, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Here's where we test the limitations of the MediaWiki interface. What we've got here is a doppelganger case; you've got two files which have the same name. Now, in practice, MediaWiki will opt to fetch the one hosted on-site first; your Commons image, which is the one we want, isn't going to be used unless we rename one of them. I'll try to find out if there's a way to make it use the Commons image without moving anything, though. Master of Puppets - Call me MoP! :D 17:34, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
