The Western University College of Veterinary Medicine (WesternU CVM) is a non-profit, private, veterinary medical school at Western University of Health Sciences located in Pomona, in the US state of California. The college consists of more than 400 veterinary medical students, and confers the degree Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. The college was established in 1998 as the first veterinary school to open in the country in 20 years. The college is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.[1]

The College harbors a Reverence for Life philosophy towards Veterinary Medicine and supports that no animal should be harmed for the sake of education and therefore relies on several strategies to adhere to this commitment. These strategies include: donations made through their Willed deceased Animals for Veterinary Education (WAVE) program, the provision of courses centered around ethics issues pertaining to the philosophy, targeted training, and strategically lain out technical training plans. This commitment is designed to enhance a reverence for life and for all animals, and not limit such reverence to owned or valued animals. This founding principle of the college is aligned with the humanistic tradition at Western University of Health Sciences.
