Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/December 2018/Project news

From the editors

Welcome to the final edition of the Bugle for 2018!

The article news section includes five new featured articles, a featured list, and ten A-class articles on a wide range of topics. There's a bit of a nautical theme to these articles, with seven covering warships, naval actions or amphibious operations. The book reviews section highlights several external reviews that might stimulate ideas for Christmas presents as well as Wikipedia articles. Indy beetle has contributed this month's op-ed on the history of military newspapers in British East Africa.

In other news, editors are reminded that nominations for the Military history WikiProject's Military historian and Newcomer and the Year awards are currently taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history. The Military historian of the year award recognizes the editors who have contributed most to the field of military history on Wikipedia over the course of a given year. The award was first awarded in 2009, for contributions in 2008. Editors are nominated for the award during a formal nomination period at the end of the year, and then chosen by a vote. The top three place-getters receive the Gold, Silver and Bronze Wiki. The Military history newcomer of the year award recognizes a promising newcomer to the Military history WikiProject that editors feel deserves a nod of appreciation for their hard work over the past 12 months. The award is open to any editor who has become active in military history articles in the 12 months prior to the opening of nominations. It was first awarded in December 2012 for the preceding twelve month period. Editors are nominated for the award during a formal nomination period at the end of the year, and then chosen by a vote. The top two place-getters receive the Golden Wiki and the Wikiproject Barnstar.

These awards cover all aspects of the project, not just content creation. Nominations may be for outstanding image contributions, backlog reductions, copyediting, reviewing for B, GA, A, or FA-Class articles, etc, so when nominating editors keep an open mind. Nominations for the Military Historian of the Year can be made here, while those wishing to Nominate for Newcomer of the Year may do so here. More information on these awards can be found here.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
