Welcome to the Star Wars WikiProject! We are a group dedicated to creating and improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Star Wars. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list, or ask one of our participants.
Recent changes in Star Wars-related articles
Seeing as Star Wars covers multiple branches of entertainment, the WikiProject is therefore a sub-project of numerous collaborations:
If interested, please sign our participants section.
The goal of the Star Wars Wikiproject is to organize, clean, and improve Star Wars information within a format that fits Wikipedia's fictional procedures to, ultimately, the level of quality stressed in the Featured Article and Featured List guidelines.
Currently, this WikiProject covers the following items:
- Anyone affiliated with the concept of Star Wars, including the musicians, casts, and crews of every Star Wars film.
- Anything featured on the Star Wars portal.
- Anything located within a Star Wars or Star Wars-affiliated category, sub-category, list, article, stub, or template.
Our main goals are to:
- ensure that all Star Wars-related articles are clean, organized, well-written, and accessible;
- improve all Star Wars-related articles to at least good article, featured article, and/or featured list status; and
- create new articles relating to Star Wars, as long as they are encyclopedic and adhere to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
We need the participation of Wikipedians and Star Wars fans alike. Here are some general guidelines to follow.
- Please sign your name below and introduce yourself in the monthly roll call section of the talk page.
- Take a look at recent discussions and the things to do page to see if your ideas have already been or need to be addressed.
- Get to know other users so that you can get a sense of the Project's attitude and each member's opinions on what should be merged, expanded, and so on. This will allow you to work better with the team, especially on major projects.
- Make sure you cite your sources, follow the project's guidelines in addition to style guidelines, and follow the discussions and agreements for the project.
- Look for text that seems biased (see WP:NPOV) and fix it.
- Be bold, but do not be reckless. See the above items and the section below for further information on what to do and what not to do.
- Promote the project
- Join this project! Add yourself to the list, and add the userbox to your page, to advertise the project to people who happen to pass by.
- Invite people to the project – drop a note on the user talk page of editors working on Star Wars topics who aren't project members.
- Consider promoting the project via the Wikipedia Signpost WikiProject desk.
- Improve the project
- Update the project pages, archive clutter, and make use of the latest automation available
- Consult the WikiProject Guide for ideas
- Come up with new ones
- Use the project
Do not:
- Insert un-cited and trivial information (see: Fancruft).
- Revert war (adherence to the Three Revert Rule is encouraged)
- Add original research, unsourced claims, speculation, point of view, excess video game information, vandalism, and patent nonsense.
- This is a general interest encyclopedia, not GameFAQs or Wookieepedia. In fact, look to see if your article is already in Wookieepedia, there's a good chance there is at least a stub article, if not a full history and background of the character that goes into far more detail than Wikipedia wants.
- Only a few characters, items, or spaceships deserve their own entry.
- See: What Wikipedia is Not.
- Again, we stress: this project is mainly for cleanup, organization, enhancement, factual fixes, and so on. Trivial information and fanfiction are frowned upon.
If some of these items seem redundant, it only underscores what we all believe in as a group.
The following is a chart of our largest tasks. For a complete list, please see the things to do subpage, in addition to our talk page. See the opentask template at the top of the page for the priority tasks. Project members, this chart should feature "priority one" tasks!
- Revamp this WikiProject page and revitalizing the project itself.
- Recruit new members to help with tasks on our to-do list.
- Begin a Collaboration of the Month for Star Wars articles.
- See the Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/index for a list of Star Wars-related articles that do not require significant attention. Chances are, if an item doesn't belong on that list or isn't on there, it needs to be fixed (make a note on the things to do page and/or the discussion page).
