    From October to December 2019, we are holding a three-month contest on stubs relating to women's biographies. The prizes will be virtual, mainly in the form of recognition of the top three participants in each section for each of the three months. There are two sections, one dealing principally with quantity, the other addressing quality.

    • The first covers the creation of new stubs which should run to at least 160 words or 1,000 characters of running text (excluding references, lists, boxes and headings) and should have at least two reliable references.
    • The second is aimed at enhancing articles classified as stubs. They should reach at least "start" quality (i.e. 250 words or 1,500 characters of running text). Please carefully check the prose size, for example by using Xtools article info and looking for the number of words under "Prose". ORES turns out not to be reliable as it includes references in assessing Start class.

    In order to participate, contributors must be members of Women in Red. Anyone can register as a member by using the box on the main WiR page.

    Please note that if you have created a new stub in the first section, you cannot use it yourself during the same month as the basis of a destubbed article in the second section. Other users may however enhance the new stubs created in the first section. Participants can enhance their own stubs the month following their creation (for example those created as stubs in October can be enhanced to start class in November).

    You can use this article's talk page if you need assistance or wish to comment on the contest.

    The main goals of the event are:

    • to contribute to qualitative and quantitative improvements in women's biographies on the English Wikipedia;
    • to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's most prominent women;
    • to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on a specific area;
    • to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works;
    • to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter).

    What else?

    • Below, you'll see a section where you can list the articles you create this month, and another section where you can add the images you have uploaded to Commons.
    • This essay on creating women's biographies and our Ten Simple Rules might be helpful to newer editors.
    • If you tweet about any of the articles, or upload any of the images to Pinterest, please indicate you have done so next to the article name.
