Welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR)! |
---|
Our objective is to turn red links into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according to Humaniki, only 19.97% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red! |

In October 2024, Women in Red again focuses on the important sphere of Women in Archaeology. The event supports the efforts of the Women in Archaeology Taskforce, which is part of WikiProject Archaeology. Established in 2016, the taskforce has been working to reduce the gender gap and earlier in 2024 identified that on its target list there are 25 red-linked women without EN articles, and 86.1% of articles in the project's scope have been raised above stub class – only 157 132 remain. We support them in reducing both these numbers to as close to zero as we can! This month the Women's Classical Committee are making their monthly focus on archaeologists too.
Anyone may take part in this event. We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies and other articles about women in all fields of archaeology, as well as the items they have discovered, their writings, organizations, and awards. There of course many sub-fields, such as aerial archaeology, digital archaeology, maritime archaeology and zooarchaeology, among many others. This virtual editathon allows enthusiasts from around the globe to participate in our initiative. See below for lists of red-linked women archaeologists for guidance. You are, of course, also welcome to add articles on any other notable archaeologists who deserve to be covered.
The main goals of the event are:
