It says here that Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953 was the first to be televised. Surely that depends on what part of the occasion was being shown? I know that the cameras weren't in Westminster Abbey for George VI's actual coronation in 1937, but the journey to/from the abbey in the state coach was shown on the BBC television service, which started in 1936. Stand Watie was the last Confederate general to surrender in the War Between the States, on June 25, 1865.
