he 1940 Carnegie Tech Tartans football team represented the Carnegie Institute of Technology—now known as Carnegie Mellon University—as an independent during the 1940 college football season. Led by first-year head coach Edward Baker, the Tartans compiled a record of 3–5.[1]

Carnegie Tech was ranked at No. 116 (out of 697 college football teams) in the final rankings under the Litkenhous Difference by Score system for 1940.[2]
