Kansas was won by GovernorGeorge W. Bush. He won all of the congressional districts and counties in the state, except for Douglas County and Wyandotte County. Gore won Douglas, home to Lawrence and the University of Kansas, with just 45.8 percent of the vote, thereby making Bush the first ever Republican to win the White House without carrying this county. IndependentRalph Nader also achieved his best performance by far in Douglas, where he got over ten percent of the vote. Bush performed very well in the first district, which is the western and most rural part of the state.
