The Red Sox finished third in the American League East with a record of 86 wins and 76 losses, 11 games behind the New York Yankees. The Red Sox were eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2002. It was also the first time that the Red Sox finished lower than second in the American League East since 1997.
