The 2013 season was the Washington Redskins' 82nd in the National Football League (NFL). They failed to improve on their 10–6 regular season record from 2012, and suffered through a 3–13 season, which was the worst record that the team had posted since 1994, resulting in the firing of head coach Mike Shanahan and most of his staff after four seasons.
The 2013 Redskins were notable for having one of the worst special teams units in league history, and this played a major role in several of their losses. Football Outsiders listed the 2013 Redskins as having the second-worst special teams unit they had ever tracked.[1]
While not at the time, this team would go on to be known for its coaching staff. As of 2024, five members of the 2013 Redskins' coaching staff would go on to be NFL head coaches, being Raheem Morris, Mike McDaniel, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Matt LaFleur. Morris and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett had both also been former NFL head coaches as of that season.
