They announced the demonstration in January 2017 to protest the environmental policies of the then U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration. The protests were held at the end of his first 100 days as president, during stormy weather across the U.S.[2] There were an estimated 200,000 participants in the D.C. march.[3]
