The 36th annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 24 August to 5 September 1979.
There was no jury because from 1969 to 1979 the festival was not competitive.[1][2][3][4]

Carlo Lizzani, leftist director and the festival's new president, has not so far managed to restore the "Golden Lion" awards presented at Venice until 1968
