The Anguilloidei are a suborder of the order Anguilliformes (the eels) containing the following families:[1]
- Moringuidae (spaghetti eels)
- Anguillidae (freshwater eels)
- Nemichthyidae (snipe eels)
- Serrivomeridae (sawtooth eels)
- Cyematidae (bobtail eels)
- Monognathidae (onejaws)
- Neocyematidae (orange bobtail eels)
- Eurypharyngidae (pelican eels)
- Saccopharyngidae (gulper eels)
This suborder historically included several other families that have recently been moved to new suborders: Chlopsidae (false morays), Heterenchelyidae (mud eels), Muraenidae (moray eels), and Myrocongridae (thin eels).[2]
