Anivsky District (Russian: Ани́вский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Anivsky Urban Okrug.[3] It is located in the south of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,684.8 square kilometers (1,036.6 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Aniva.[1] Population: 17,533 (2010 Census);[2] 15,272 (2002 Census);[5] 36,740 (1989 Soviet census).[6] The population of Aniva accounts for 52.0% of the district's total population.[2]
