Belfast is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plainfield Township in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area, which had a population of 861,899 and was the 68th-most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. as of the 2020 census. As of the 2010 census, the village's population was 1,257.
Located in one of the first settled areas in the township, the village is believed to have been named for the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Its settlers, who were predominantly German and Welsh, arrived in the area in the late 18th century. The village was originally known as Belleville or Bellville because of its scenic view. The name Belfast came into use sometime after the Civil War.[1]
