Benjamin Jowett (/ˈɪt/,[2] modern variant /ˈɪt/;[3] 15 April 1817 – 1 October 1893) was an English writer and classical scholar. Additionally, he was an administrative reformer in the University of Oxford, theologian, Anglican cleric, and translator of Plato and Thucydides.[4] He was Master of Balliol College, Oxford.[5]
