The birthday of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, commonly known as Bangabandhu's birthday, is a former public holiday in Bangladesh which is observed annually on 17 March to celebrate the birth of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, (also known as Bangabandhu, lit. 'friend of Bengal') the founder of Bangladesh and former president of the Awami League.
