Cao Shen or Cao Can (died 24 September 190 BCE[1]), courtesy name Jingbo (Chinese: 敬伯), was a Chinese military general and politician. He served as a chancellor of the Western Han dynasty. He participated in the Chu–Han Contention on Liu Bang (Emperor Gaozu of Han)'s side and contributed greatly to the founding of the Han dynasty.

  1. ^ According to vol. 12 of Zizhi Tongjian, Cao died on the jichou (己丑) day of the 8th month of the 5th year of Emperor Hui's reign. However, that month does not have a jichou day; it does have a yichou (乙丑) day, which corresponds to 24 Sep 190 BCE in the proleptic Julian calendar.
