Carbon respiration (also referred to as carbon emissions and carbon releases) is the global release into the atmosphere of carbon through natural and artificial processes. It is used in combination with carbon fixation to gauge carbon flux (including CO₂ flux) between atmospheric carbon and the global carbon cycle
