Definitions — whilst there is no universally accepted definition of a mountain and hence the lower limit elevation for this category, the following guidelines are offered in order to provide some consistency whilst respecting differing views around the English speaking world:
Europe: 600 metres (2,000 feet)Error in convert: Ignored invalid option "adj=j" (help) − (this is the official definition in the UK and Ireland, equivalent approximately to 2,000 feet).
North America and South America: 1,000 feet (300 metres)Error in convert: Ignored invalid option "adj=j" (help) − (the old official definition of the USGS, albeit now defunct and not superseded)
Elsewhere: follow local practice for English-speaking countries, or minimum 600 metres elsewhere
Note: Please discuss any additions or changes to the above criteria on the talk page.
