The Republic of Ireland national football team had a match in Sweden against the Swedish national football team in May 1960 – players of the team from left to right, standing; Seamus Dunne, Noel Dwyer, Charlie Hurley. Michael McGrath, Pat Saward; crouched: Joe Haverty, George Cummins, Dermot Curtis, Ronnie Nolan, Ambrose "Amby" Fogarty and Fionan "Paddy" Fagan.

Charles John Hurley (4 October 1936 – 22 April 2024) was an Irish footballer who mainly played in the centre half position. Nicknamed 'King', Hurley was a defender for both Sunderland, where he was named as "Player of the Century" by their fans in 1979, and the Republic of Ireland. He ended his playing career at Bolton Wanderers and was later manager of Reading. Hurley died on 22 April 2024, at the age of 87.[1][2][3]
