Christianity has been in Hong Kong since 1841 when British Empire started to rule Hong Kong.[1]
As of 2022, there were about 1.3 million Christians in Hong Kong (16% of the total population), most of them are Protestant (around 900,000) and Catholic (around 401,000).[2]
As The Wall Street Journal reporter notes, churches 'are deeply embedded in the fabric of Hong Kong society' – in stark contrast to mainland China, where the Communist Party still views Christians as rivals for the loyalty of Chinese citizens.
