Christina Milian (/ˌmɪliˈɑːn/ MIL-ee-AHN; née Flores, born September 26, 1981)[1] is a Cuban American singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey and raised in Maryland, she signed a contract with Def Soul at the age of 19. In 2002, she performed the theme song "Call Me, Beep Me!", for the Disney Channel animated series Kim Possible.
Milian made her recording debut on American rapper Ja Rule's 2000 single, "Between Me and You", which peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and led her to sign with Def Soul—a now-defunct branch of Def Jam Recordings—that same year. She was subsequently transferred to Island Records, through which she released her self-titled debut studio album (2002). Despite failing to chart domestically, it moderately entered international charts and was led by the Billboard Hot 100-top 40 single "AM to PM". Her second album, It's About Time (2004), spawned the single "Dip It Low" (featuring Fabolous), which peaked at number five of the chart, as well as "Whatever U Want" (featuring Joe Budden). Her third album, So Amazin' (2004), was met with similar success and yielded the top 40 single, "Say I" (featuring Jeezy). She parted ways with Island following its release. Each song peaked within the top ten of the UK Singles Chart.[2]
She signed with MySpace and Interscope Records in 2008 to release the ballad "Us Against the World". She then signed with The-Dream's Radio Killa Records and later Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment, but parted ways with both without any releases.
Milian originally wanted to be an actress. Her first lead role was in the 2003 film Love Don't Cost a Thing, and she subsequently had lead roles in Be Cool and the 2006 horror film Pulse. Milian had a minor role in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, and starred as the lead role in the straight-to-DVD film Bring It On: Fight to the Finish. Milian has also starred in the 2010 ABC Family Original Movie Christmas Cupid, alongside Ashley Benson and Chad Michael Murray. From 2015 to 2016, she starred in the sitcom Grandfathered. She is an entrepreneur and co-founded and co-owns Beignet Box, a dessert shop in the Los Angeles area.[3][4][5]
