Commemoration of Stepan Bandera

A commemorative plaque in Stryi.

Neither Stepan Bandera or the OUN are a symbols of the current Ukrainian government and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not presenting Bandera or other OUN members as national heroes,[1] preferring to not talk about Bandera.[2]

Nevertheless, the memory of Bandera can be found in Ukraine.[1] The perception of controversial historical figures is different across the different regions of Ukraine.[2] There are numerous monuments to Bandera in western cities of Ukraine.[3] Monuments to Bandera, a Ukrainian leader of a split faction of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists leadership, have been erected in Galicia, Volyn and partially in Western Podillia (administratively Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Rivne and Ternopil region). Over 40 monuments have been erected.
