Severe Tropical Cyclone Ian was a category 4 tropical cyclone that formed on January 2, 2014, and dissipated to an extratropical cyclone on January 15, 2014. Areas affected by the tropical cyclone include Fiji and Tonga. In Tonga, Ian caused destruction in the Ha'apai islands, with severely injured and one fatality.[1] The damages caused $48 million USD (~73 million AUD), adjusted to inflation the damages would cost ~64 million USD (~97 million AUD.) [2]
