David Frank Levi (born August 29, 1951)[1] is an American jurist and former Dean of the Duke University School of Law.[2] From 1990 to 2007, he was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, serving as Chief Judge from 2003 to 2007.[3] At the time Levi left the bench, he was widely considered to be one of the top federal judges in the nation.[4][5] He had been mentioned as a possible nominee to the Supreme Court.[6][7]
