Donald Neilson (born Donald Nappey; 1 August 1936 – 18 December 2011), also known as "The Black Panther", was an English armed robber, kidnapper, and murderer.[2] Neilson committed a string of sub-post office robberies from 1971 to 1974, killing three people. In 1975, he kidnapped Lesley Whittle, an heiress from Shropshire, who died during captivity. Neilson was arrested later that year, convicted of four murders, and sentenced to life in prison in July 1976. He remained incarcerated until his death in 2011.[2]
