A nuisance influencer,[1] also known as a nuisance YouTuber, is an influencer who performs pranks or intentionally provokes other people in public for attention on social media, thus being perceived as a public nuisance.[2] In Japan, nuisance influencers are known as Meiwakukei (Japanese: 迷惑系, lit. 'Nuisance YouTuber').[3] Following the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, such influencers from foreign countries have been accused of fare dodging and pretending to be homeless to earn money.[4] People described as nuisance influencers include Fidias Panayiotou[5] and Johnny Somali.[2]
