Draft:Professor Pradeep Nair

Pradeep Nair is a Future Earth Coasts Fellow (FEC), presently working as Professor of New Media Studies at Central University of Himachal Pradesh, India. He is also the Director Research of the University. He is a member of Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Working Group on Climate Change which crafts and implements GEO strategy for climate action as well as promoting earth observations for adaptation and mitigation in line with the Paris Agreement goals. He is an Expert of the United Nations Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment and is on the Roster of Experts of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He is affiliated as a Scholar with Climate Social Science Network at the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES), Brown University, USA and the Dutch Network for Climate Obstruction Studies (Climate Obstruction NL). His study focuses on Climate and Health Nexus, Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation, Resilience, Governance and Policy. With a background in health communication, governance and policy studies, his research focus is on policy dynamics of cross-cutting societal issues, particularly how governments across the world address climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation. His main research areas are critical communication theories, new media in shaping public opinion and behaviour in the context of energy decision-making process, exploring the relationship between media and climate change, understanding the impact of climate change on local ecologies and health communication and governance. His expertise in this area stems from his ability to work on the ground in meaningful ways with partners in government, industry, local communities and NGOs, and to connect that work to influence global policy, market and finance to advance work at scale.

He is a member of Climate Advocacy Lab, which helps climate and clean energy advocates, organizers, funders, social scientists, data experts and others save time, money and energy by centralizing and transferring knowledge created by the climate community. He is a communication expert at International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) and a Global Outreach – Contributing Member of the American Society for Microbiology and is affiliated to FEC Cyber-Coast Working Group, Water Resource Working Group of World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), Planning Committee of National Adaptation Forum, Saint Paul, Minnesota. He is a Mentor in the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FLMF) program for the year 2024-2026.

He served as a reviewer for the National Sea Grant Office, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), US Department of Commerce for the year 2024 and is an External Reviewer in selecting research proposals for funding for Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) Capacity Development Committee under the Scientific Capacity Development Programme (CAPaBLE). He reviews for British Medical Journal, WHO Health Bulletin, Digital Health, Discover Health Systems, European Policy Review, Health and Technology, Pedagogy in Health Promotion, Journal of Health Management, Journal of Patient Experience, Frontiers in Public Health. He serves in the Editorial Board of the scientific journals BMC Public Health, European Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (University of Rzeszow), Animal Research and One Health (Wiley), Communication Research and Practice (Taylor & Francis), Humanities and Social Science Communications (Nature), CABI One Health, Frontiers in Digital Health and Connected Health. He served two consecutive terms on the Editorial Board of the journals - Asia Pacific Media Educator and Pedagogy in Health Promotion (Sage). He has (co)authored over 60 scientific articles in leading journals and won several scientific awards for his work. He has co-edited a research section on Health Technologies and Innovations to effectively respond to the Covid-19 Pandemic and a Research Topic Collection – Highlights in Connected Health 2021/22 for Frontiers in Digital Health.
