The Southern Cook Islands is one of the two chains of atolls which make up the Cook Islands.
The chain consists of the atolls of Aitutaki, Atiu, Mangaia, Manuae (uninhabited), Mauke, Mitiaro, Palmerston, Rarotonga and Takutea (uninhabited) along with the submerged Winslow Reef.
The chain accounts for 93.7% of the whole Cook Islands' population[1], with almost 75% of the total living on Rarotonga. Rarotonga also host the capital city, Avarua. It is the most dynamic chain of the two, both in demographics and economics.
