The Swedish Marine Battalion 2030 is a program to develop the Swedish amphibious forces in order to improve their ability to meet increased threats and the NATO-integration by introducing a number of new platforms with sea-mobile network centric weapon and sensor systems.

The amphibious forces of the Swedish Navy are designed to operate in the contested littorals of the Nordics. The close proximity to Russia and the extensive archipelagos of Nordic/Baltic arena make dispersion a natural tactic for protection. This puts great demands on the ability of movement and joint arms operations to create sufficient fire power.

The Swedish Marine Battalion 2030 has been in development since 2015 in close co-operation between The Armed Forces of Sweden, FOI and FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration. The result is a concept with a number of small sea-based platforms with weapon systems and command and control systems that gives the battalion the ability of joint arms operation within the battalion, together with other units of The Swedish Armed Forces and it’s NATO allies.

A number of sea-based sensor, weapons and command & control systems are currently being procured by FMV:

  • Sea-mobile artillery system (Mortar boat)
  • Sea-mobile sensor system
  • Sea-mobile air defense system
  • Sea-mobile anti-ship system
  • Sea-mobile command system
  • Sea-mobile logistics system

The first system to be procured is a mortar boat, a sea-mobile artillery system with the Patria NEMO mortar system.
