TitleDr. Vimal Mishra

Dr. Vimal Mishra is an Indian hydrologist and Vikram Sarabhai Chair Professor in Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. Dr Vimal Mishra leads his Water and Climate Lab[1] at IIT Gandhinagar. He integrates observed and remotely sensed datasets with large scale hydrologic modeling to answer important questions related to human-climate interactions. His research work has contributed in advancing our understanding of land-atmospheric coupling and its role on hydrolclimatic extremes in India. He quantified the impacts of climate change and human interventions on water resources in India. In addition, his work has shown that crucial role of irrigation and groundwater pumping on the rapidly declining groundwater storage in India. Dr. Mishra received Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize of 2022 in Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean, and Planetary Sciences category. Dr. Mishra is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) since 2021. He was awarded the Devendra Lal Memorial Medal[2] from the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in 2021. He is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union[3] (AGU). Dr. Mishra is a recipient of the Kavli Frontiers Fellowship[4] in 2015 from the US National Academy of Sciences. He is currently serving as an editor of Earth's Future[5] (AGU) and associate editor of Journal of Hydrology.
