Egon Bittner

Egon Bittner (April 16, 1921 – May 7, 2011) was an American sociologist who made groundbreaking contributions to the sociology of policing. He was born on April 16, 1921 into a Jewish family in Skřečoň, a village in Silesia, an historically much-disputed part of Czechoslovakia (now in the Czech Republic). He died on May 7, in the Bay Area of San Francisco, leaving a wife, Jean (Szeina Blacharowicz) and two children, Debora Seys and Tom Bittner.
