In the United Kingdom, gun ownership is considered a privilige, not a right,[1] and access by the general public to firearms is subject to strict control measures.[2] Members of the public may own certain firearms for the purposes of sport shooting, recreation, hunting or occupational purposes, however, they must be properly licensed.
As of 2024, there are approximately 550,000 licensed firearm owners in Great Britain, holding approximately 2,210,000 firearms.
