"Frank Cadogan Cowper (1877–1958) was called “the last of the Pre- Raphaelites” for his adherence to the group's principles decades after its dissolution; Cowper, who specialised in historical, literary, and religious subjects, was a fashionable artist at the beginning of the twentieth century—Evelyn Waugh was his major patron, and his paintings were favorably received at Royal Academy exhibitions in London, including by the influential art dealer Joseph Duveen."
