DeWit resigned due to an audio release of him allegedly offering a bribe from "Back East" to Kari Lake not to run for Senate in 2024.[1] She defeated Arizona Corporation Commissioner Jim O'Connor with 67% of the vote to become Chairwoman in January 2024.[2]
Prior to serving as Chairwoman, Gina had served in the State of Arizona's election office, served as a local registrar, as a Precinct Committeewoman, and a statewide trainer for poll observers.[3] Additionally, she worked in the Arizona Secretary of State's office under Democrat Katie Hobbs prior to her election as Governor.[4] Upon her election as AZGOP Chairwoman, Hobbs stated "she was a great employee at the Secretary of State's office, we were sorry to see her go."[5]
