Helga Maria Schmid (born 8 December 1960)[1] is a German diplomat who served as the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from 2020 to 2024. Prior to her term with the OSCE, Schmid was the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) 2016 to 2020.[2]
In July 2024, Schmid was nominated to become President of the United Nations General Assembly starting in September 2025.[3]
