Joseph Francis Baca (born October 1, 1936)[1] is a New Mexico lawyer and judge who served as a justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court from January 1, 1989 to July 31, 2002, serving as chief justice from 1994 to 1996.[2] He has engaged in various other avenues of public service at the state and national levels, and in 1994 was recommended by the Hispanic National Bar Association as a potential nominee for appointment to the Supreme Court of the United States.
