Jost Winteler (21 November 1846 - 23 February 1929) was a Swiss professor of Greek and history^[1] at the Kantonsschule Aarau (today called the Old Cantonal School Aarau), a linguist,^[2] a "noted" philologist,^[3] an ornithologist, a journalist,^[4] and a published poet.^[5][6] He served as both a mentor^[7] and father figure^[8] to a teenage Albert Einstein, who boarded at his home from October 1895 to October 1896,^[9] while he attended his final year of secondary school.^[10]
