Jost Winteler (21 November 1846 - 23 February 1929) was a Swiss professor of Greek and history[1] at the Kantonsschule Aarau (today called the Old Cantonal School Aarau), a linguist,[2] a "noted" philologist,[3] an ornithologist, a journalist,[4] and a published poet.[5][6] He served as both a mentor[7] and father figure[8] to a teenage Albert Einstein, who boarded at his home from October 1895 to October 1896,[9] while he attended his final year of secondary school.[10]
